And FUN it was! The place we went had a moving conveyor that brought you to the top of the hill with your tube, so you didn't become exhausted in just a few runs. There were single tubes, doubles, triples and quads to choose from. It was a beautiful day and became down-right hot up there. After just a few runs, we ditched our jackets for liners only and forget the hats. Chey'Anne and I tried the ULTIMATE run....which you had to hike up to and it was SCARY. Very steep and bumpy! No pictures of that though, bummer.
Florida in February is a wonderful vacation...along with seeing my Dad and Step-Mom, of course. David and I left at the butt-crack of dawn on Sunday (literally the flight was at 5:30am) and arrived in Florida late afternoon to some chilly temps!! It was only 50 degree's!! Ummm...that's the temp I left at home. I DO NOT WANT TO GO TO A WARM PLACE AND EXPERIENCE THE SAME TEMPS! booooo! Luckily the weather only got warmer from there!

I have been a member of a large world wide IVF chat board since 2000. I was lucky enough to meet 7 of my fellow "sisters"! On Monday, I met Kristine and Lisa (and 5 kids) at the Clearwater Aquarium (the one where Winter the dolphin resides). 6 kids, 3 adults - as Kristine kept repeating, it was like herding kittens. LOL! We had a great time looking at the exhibits and even catching a show.
On Tuesday, grandpa, David and myself headed off to the Dinosaur Park. Loads of fun seeing all the different dino's in "life sized" versions. The warm weather was especially nice to be in.
By Friday, my sister, Karen, BIL Steve, and my brother Jeff were all in town. As we sat down for lunch, SURPRISE, my niece, Nina arrived!! Needless to say, my Dad was thoroughly surprised and thrilled. We spent the afternoon at the beach and playing in the waves.

Saturday was party day. Karen had an elaborate plan that because it was Dad's 80th birthday, and it was airplane themed, she would purchase a flight attendant costume to wear at the party. It was a huge hit. I supplied the airline peanuts (actual airline packaged ones - so fun!). My dad has been working on a commissioned project for the Tampa Historical Society to build a replica scale airplane of the Benoist (ben-wah), which was the first commercial airline to fly across Tampa Bay. Sylvia hired an historical actor to play the part of the pilot of that airline.
Our last day in tropical paradise (well, to us it was), David and I headed off to the beach. Too bad the sun decided to keep behind the clouds.
I was with you the whole time stroking your head, rubbing your ears and whispering my love to you. You have been the most amazing, sweet, frustrating, pestering, naughty, smart, and fun dog I have owned. Even on your last day, the 10 minutes I left you alone in the house, you managed to chew a DVD box. Seriously!? This morning, I gave you the peanut butter jar for you to enjoy - it was clean in just a few minutes.

I'm glad that we took photo's with you on Sunday. I'll miss stepping over you, tripping over you, and having to become a contortionist to get off the couch because you laid down right in front of it. Although in the last few weeks, you've been sleeping more, the house still feels empty without you in it. I'll miss your groans, snoring and, yes, even your stinky dog butt. I'll miss watching you chase something in your dreams. I'll even miss your whining at me for....well, whatever you whined about at that moment.

You were our beloved Oreo. Our wonderful dog. Go run and play, be that puppy you once were.
In fact, he had a choice during his last birthday whether he wanted a guinea pig or snake/chameleon, surprisingly he chose guinea pig. Anyways, my son is Obsessed with anything snake (or cheetah) on Animal Planet. We watch Call of the Wild Man, Gator Boys, and Swamp Wars whenever possible. David says that he wants to take care of snakes when he grows up - he knows that it's called a herpetologist.

This week I learned that Portland was having a Reptile Expo, so I looked up the info and off we went. FUN!! I'm not afraid of snakes at all, in fact, just before we were married, Matt and I had a Burmese Python. We held snakes, chameleons, and lizards. We saw a cobra up close (enclosed in a glass cage) flare it's hood and got to pet a 5-6ft alligator! It was a lot of fun. Once Nibbles "goes", I told David that he can get a snake/reptile. I'm guessing if he's still interested this time next year...what the hell, we'll get a "new" pet.

Enjoy the pics!! I can't believe that I didn't get a better picture of David holding a snake nor did I get one of him holding a chameleon. :( SNAKES ARE COOL!!!
I'm sick....like ill sick - everyone knows that I'm already the "other" kind of sick. On Monday, I went to work and started a cough. As the day progressed, so did the cough. By that night, the body aches started. OMG! I got the flu.....NOOOOOOOOOOOO cuz I just got the flu shot. Too bad it was only 10 days prior to this cough. The Dr's say that your body needs about 14 days to develop the full antibodies needed to fight the flu. DAMN!!

I barely slept on Monday night because of the coughing. I sent my manager an email stating I was going to stay home, sent David off to school and I poured myself onto the couch. Cough cough. Dozing most of the day, increasing my fluids and just feeling miserable. By Tuesday night, I was in it DEEP! The body aches were horrible! Coughing was worse. I was up most of the night.

Wednesday morning didn't bring much relief at all - in fact, more misery because now David was sporting a slight fever. Now it's me and the kiddo home. I decided I was just too miserable, so I went off to the Dr. I need some drugs to help me sleep. GREAT NEWS - I DON'T HAVE THE FLU. YAY!! Just a very nasty upper respiratory cold. Booo! 2 prescriptions later for strong cough meds (1 with Codeine to help me sleep), and we were on our way home. David acted fine all day. Didn't sport another fever. I can barely take care of myself, so I asked M if he'd take David overnight to give me some much needed rest. I got a text from M that night saying that David had a fever, bad sore throat and bad cough. I was up all night coughing - that's awesome that I got Codeine cough meds that don't work!! I planned on heading to the store early the next morning to get soft foods for David and new OTC meds for him.

Thursday morning, M dropped David off and said he didn't sleep much. David walked into the house with a fever (thanks for giving him meds), he coughed, gagged and threw up all over the floor. GREAT!! Once he was upright again, I gave him some meds and within 30 min, he was feeling SOOO much better. I dumped him into the bathtub, he hasn't taken a bath in a couple years, but he loved it. He said that it soothed his achy body. Is this kid 77 or 7? Anyways, I kept him medicated throughout the day. I worried most about him sleeping that night.

I
Need
Sleep

Someone slept all night - that would NOT include me!! I got 4 hours straight sleep, but then I was up multiple times and just gave up totally at 4:45am. So, it's Friday. David is in the full throws of this cold. Has asked to take 2 baths already today. He also coughed, gagged and threw up again. Poor guy. I'm not doing much better. I'm so tired, but can't lay down because the rattle in my chest just gets bigger and bigger and puts me into a huge coughing fit! A friend of mine suggested that I call the Dr and get a new prescription of Hydrocodan Syrup instead. It's a form of Vicodin in liquid cough meds form. Well, I have some Vicodin remaining from my surgery, so I'm going to try taking a pill and my prescription cough med (not with the codeine) and see how I do. If it's not any better, I'm off to the clinic tomorrow to see what else they can do for me.

The Dr. told me to expect the cough to linger for 3-5 weeks...fan-freakin-tastic....NOT! UGH, I'm DONE with coughing. I'm done feeling like crap. I'm done, done, done!! It's a 3 day weekend for me, so I have 4 days to feel better before thinking about returning to work on Tuesday. Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06018855677928916733noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2231289399713159634.post-17798744671479862132012-12-29T09:40:00.003-08:002012-12-29T09:40:53.179-08:00May I Have the Envelope Please.....(the results are in)Yesterday I got the call. The results from my biopsies.

Everything is just fine! YAY!! My Dr. even said that because my paps have been normal my whole life and I don't have HPV, I can just continue my regular annual exams rather than an every 6 month routine that is norm with abnormal paps. I have to go back in 6 weeks to be sure that all of my sutures are gone and I'm fully healed, but other than that, she feels that the polyp was just "one of those things" that was local but unusual.

About an hour after the call, after I had made all of my calls and texts, I burst into tears. Tears of relief, tears of joy, tears of stress - I don't know. I guess I didn't realize how much I was stressing over these results.

So, while 2012 had it's ups and downs, hopefully this is a sign that 2013 is going to kick ass!!Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06018855677928916733noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2231289399713159634.post-25829592709370476432012-12-25T13:00:00.001-08:002013-02-04T06:19:21.588-08:00Christmas 2012Twas the night before.....what? Ugh, I won't be starting out my blog with that...

With my surgery scheduled 4 days before Christmas, I was panicked that I wasn't going to get everything finished, but I did! I only had David for a couple of days prior to Christmas Eve (because of my surgery), so we crammed in a TON of Christmas activities in one night! After work, I grabbed David from daycare and we were off to see Santa and hit Winter Wonderland at the PIR. Once those were done, we were crossing over the river and saw that the Christmas boats were out. I quickly veered my car to go see them.

This was the first year in a long time where I was still shopping a few days before Christmas. NOT what I like to do. It would also help if I had opened the boxes that came in the mail from my online purchases before retail shopping. Saturday night had me running to TRU at 9pm to return something that I purchased twice.

David asked Santa for Beyblades. Santa came through except for 1 specific Beyblade that was requested. Santa never found it - (I)he looked at many stores, but it was OK, David wasn't too disappointed. Also, David wanted to change his bedroom to be Angry Bird - which surprised me because up until 3-4 weeks ago, all he could talk about was Spiderman. A new comforter, sheets, blanket and poster transformed his room. His Birthday is in a few months, so I'll be looking for wall stickers to enhance the look even more. Santa got me a new body pillow (NEVER buy the cheap pillow from IKEA - it doesn't last long). I almost blew the Santa fantasy because I wrapped the body pillow from Santa, but the new cover I got from it was wrapped from my dad. David noticed. He commented "Mommy, how did Grandpa know that Santa was getting you a new pillow"? YIKES! Think fast!!! "Grandpa didn't know, I told him that Mommy had a pillow and needed a new pillowcase for it". PHEW! He bought it.

I decided that David has many toys, so this year I focused on games that we could play together. Sorry, Jenga, Uno, BananaGrams and Perfection were purchased.

Enjoy the pics!

I just realized that I didn't get a picture of the Beyblades!! DOH!!

Today is Christmas and I don't have David. It's been a relaxing day - I'm trying to get my house cleaned. Later I'm heading out to the movies with a friend - The Hobbit.

Addendum: Geesh, It's February and I just realized that I forgot to talk about the tree. I thought I talked about it, but I guess not.

I've always gotten a live tree - from a lot. This year, with funds being tight, I heard about a tree farm that has trees for only $20. AWESOME!! In early December, I had a cold (yea, I've been sick twice in as many months), but on a Saturday I mustered enough energy to get out and get a tree. David and I went out to the tree farm, sloshed though the mud, saw in hand and found our tree. Onto my knees I went and started sawing. And sawing. And sawing, sawing, sawing....OMG! I was about 3/4 of the way through the trunk and I just couldn't progress. I didn't have anymore energy left. What's a girl to do? Find a man who's walking around and ask him politely to help. YAY!! Then I saw that the farm has people driving around picking up trees to bring to the tie up area....no need to schlep that thing back. My tree was shaken, bagged and put into the trunk of car for me. Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06018855677928916733noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2231289399713159634.post-4094714569624040542012-12-23T16:58:00.002-08:002012-12-23T16:58:54.640-08:00I don't remember flossing there!!On Thursday, I went into the hospital at an unGodly hour of 5:30am with surgery scheduled at 7:30. My friend, Trina, dropped me off (thank you to her for getting up so darned early and having to be at work later that morning) and I was checked in.

Even without food, caffeine or drugs, I was in fine form! I made most of the staff laugh that morning. My Dr. came in to explain the procedure and how recovery will be. She mentioned that there will be stitches and I shouldn't be alarmed if at some point some of the threads come out - not all dissolve. As she said this, she demonstrated the length of a stitch being about 3 inches long...I cracked up. After she mentioned that, I replied with "No, I wouldn't be alarmed. I would be puzzled because I would think 'Huh, I don't remember flossing there'". First her face was of shock then she registered what I had said and she burst out laughing! Good sign that she was awake and ready.

My IV - HA!! That was a procedure in itself. My nurse was very nice and she came with the heat pack and asked if I wanted the numbing meds. After having close to 15 IV's during the course of being pg with David, I know what they're like and don't really bother me much. No, don't need the numbing meds. I always let my nurses or phlebes know that I have veins that collapse easily. DO NOT touch the wall of my vein or it's done. She got the needle in the first time, no problem. She drew blood from it and taped it well. However, it was the fact my hand was covered in blood after all of that which I shook my head at. What a mess.

I met with all of the necessary staff and off I went to the OR. I moved to the OR table and had the oxygen mask placed over my nose and mouth...YUCK, smells awful and noted it. The anesthesiologist threw out some big chemical words for it being the plastic mask that stinks. The nurses chuckled at him and I stated that he really shouldn't use such big words before 11am. After a struggle with the armrest of the table, he injected my IV with meds (which stung!!) and said...'Nighty night'.

I woke up 1 hour later in my room. Within 10 min, I was up, feeling like I was drunk, but up. Then the cramps started. OY!! Think of your worst menstrual cramps you've EVER had....double that. I was given 2 vicodin and sent on my way by 10am.

OH MY!! Krista has some stories! We stopped to get some breakfast first because I hadn't eaten since the night before. It was while my stomach had food in it that the vicodin hit me. I still had to go to the store to get my prescription which was a 25 min wait. So, we wandered the store...me wandering more than her. I did manage to paint my thumb nail with some nail polish - what?! how else are you to know if you like the color. I was lucid enough to realize that I already had that color at home. Still, I'm sure I was pretty funny to watch and talk to.

I poured myself onto the couch and slept most of the day. I would sleep about 40 min to each hour. Krista was on the other couch and stayed with me for most of the day - leaving around dinner. I was delivered dinner by another friend and I was in bed for the night by 8pm and slept until 8am the next day. WHOA! Perhaps staying up most of the night on Tuesday and Wed. had caught up with me.

Friday was a bit better. Minimal cramps - no vicodin just Ibuprofen. Although, a short trip to work and the store had me down for a 2 hour nap that afternoon. Again, I poured myself into bed around 9 and slept until 8. I'm on the road to recovery. I have several restrictions for 6 weeks - one being no baths. I LOVE A HOT BATH!! especially this time of year. Boooo!

I will possibly have my results this week, but more than likely the first week of January. This is the REAL nerve wracking part.

This summer, I learned about many regular clubs in the Portland area have gay/lesbian dances on specific weekends of the month. Paula and I went to Blow Pony in June and had a blast. Last month I went to Hot Flash with a friend of mine and it's for the 35 and older crowd - hella fun! So, I thought I'd try another this weekend. However, I can't always rely on my friends to be available or wanting to go with me to these events, so I decided to do something that I've never done before...I went alone. Hot Flash was a blast, so I figured I could to this different event by myself. I thought I knew what to expect. This was also an event for the 35+ crowd....um....well.....I think they need to change that age b/c there wasn't anyone under 55. OY!! Shit.

Here I got my courage up to go somewhere alone, and I walked into THIS!!? OMG! I sat at the bar and chatted up the nice bartender and texted friends.

The music - was so dated!! I really felt that I was at a bad wedding. They played the Electric Slide, John Denver, Celebration, and then....COUNTRY MUSIC - with people line dancing!! Holy hell. I just laughed. The only songs not played were the Chicken Dance and the Hokey Pokey. I was waiting for the brides to walk through the door at any moment. Which is when my bartender man said: We're just waiting for a bride to walk in with a bad dress and her hair jacked up to Jesus! I died. What an awesome line: Hair jacked up to Jesus!!

It just so happened that last night was the Portland Santa pub crawl and the last bar they stopped at was the one I was at. Hundreds of Santa's were in the front bar waiting for the dance floor to open. FINALLY, when the part of the bar I was in was opened up to the public, the night became a blast! The good music began and dancing ensued!! Santa's of all sorts flooded the dance floor... daaamn, Santa's got some moves! I was finally glad that I went (and stayed) - even if it was alone. I was fine. I had a lot of fun, met some wonderful people and I won't be scared to attend another function alone again...although, I'm crossing THAT event off my list.
He was 16 years old and dx'd earlier in the year with kidney failure.

My kitty boy, you were my Valentines Day present long ago. I already had a cat, Baxter, but I adopted him from the shelter when he was almost a year old, so I never had a kitten. You were adopted from a non-profit group in the tri-cities called H.E.L.P. - Homes for Endangered and Lost Pets. When we were told that the group had a litter of kittens, I was thrilled! You were 2 days old, your eyes weren't even opened when we went to see you and your sisters. Mom was a tiger kitty, as were your sisters. You were the only black kitty in the litter and the only one not spoken for, so you were ours! 8 weeks later we got to pick you up. OMG! You were the ugliest kitten ever!! Your fur was course, you had no fur from your eyes to your ears...UGH, I got an ugly kitten.

Boy, did you show us wrong!! You grew into a beautiful cat who was so loving. You were definitely a lap cat and you always took the opportunity to be loved. You and Baxter were best of friends, always together cuddling. Then we moved into our first house and got our first dog, Andra. Andra was a large Malamute, who also loved you. I would come home and find you cuddled into Andra's long fur. Then, months later, we got another dog...a puppy, Oreo. You and Oreo were became best friends and companions.

When you were nine, the greatest indignity happened...a baby, but you just decided to love on him even more. You endured the toddler years of tail pulling, being carried upside down, sat on, drooled on...etc. AND that wasn't just from David, that was from all the toddlers that came over. I always expected you to jump over the baby gate and escape, but you didn't. You loved the attention. You became David's buddy. Once David moved into a big boy bed, that is where you wanted to sleep at night. You knew the routine, as soon as you heard me reading a story, you'd come running into the room and jump up onto the bed. When David would sit on the couch, within minutes, you would be in his lap.

Which is why it was so hard on David when you died. I knew the time was coming, so I tried to prepare David as best as I could. Oh man, we cried for many nights as we would cuddle you in bed. The past week you quickly declined. I made the decision and the appointment to bring you to the Vet on Thursday, but as of Tuesday night, you could no longer walk. It was time. I brought you to the Vet, pet you, talked to you, stayed with you until you were gone and then some.

Oh Amos, I couldn't have asked for a better kitty. Yes, you were a pest at times, but that loving spirit is so very missed right now. Telling David that you had died was hardest thing I had to do. He cried all afternoon, and bedtime was even worse. I cuddled him as we cried, but I'm a poor substitute for you, buddy. We miss you.

As and addendum - After much thought, I decided not to tell David that I brought Amos to the vet. He is only 7.5 years old, so I do not feel that he has the ability to know that euthanasia is a kind way to help your animal stop suffering. David knows that Amos curled up and died while I was petting him. Which is a version of the truth.
While I have always had some monthly issues and infertility, I've never had a pap or exam come up with any concern. Until....

While my dr. was taking a look "under the hood", she found a rather large cervical polyp which she removed and sent off to pathology. She said that 99% of the time polyps are benign and pretty common to older premenopausal women. Also, because of this polyp and the monthly issues I've been having for years, she decided that it was time to order an ultrasound to see if there was anything within the uterus. The ultrasound happened the day before Thanksgiving. With the Holiday weekend, I didn't expect any results until today. Luckily I was home for lunch when my dr. called because the news she had was concerning and scary.

And the results are....

The biopsy of the polyp came back with abnormal cells, but an inconclusive result because my pap sample was normal. I also don't have HPV (leading cause of cervical cancer). Also, my ultrasound found something within my uterus. DAMN! I'm scheduled for a cervical cone biopsy and a D & C and I'm scared shitless. I broke down.

I'll have a friend take me too and from the surgery (in Dec), I've arranged David to be with Daddy early and am taking 2 days off. Now I wait. Wonder. Worry.

On a positive medical note: my mammogram was fine. Thank goodness, because my mom had breast cancer.

Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06018855677928916733noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2231289399713159634.post-24514313613225419392012-11-25T18:16:00.004-08:002012-11-25T19:03:05.871-08:00Black Friday and, yea, that other day. Black Friday, the dreaded day. A day that I loathed and loved at the same time....except this year. Because this year, I DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! For the first time in 3 years, I didn't have to work retail during the madness. I QUIT Kohl's a few weeks ago! YIPPEE! With it just being only David to shop for this year, I really didn't have the urge to head out to shop-til-I-dropped and I had him overnight. Plus, I heard that there are better deals to be found as Christmas gets closer.

Thanksgiving Day was spent with David and friends. My coworker/friend, Trina, invited us over to have Thanksgiving with her husband, son and mother. We were treated to a very traditional and DELICIOUS Thanksgiving dinner. After putting David to bed, I zonked out on the couch and slept until almost 8:30 on Black Friday. WAIT! I must back up just a bit...On T-Day morning, I was sound asleep when my phone rang at 5:57am. 5:57AM!!!! It was my sister - in a bit of a panic, I answered the phone b/c why would she be calling so early? Just to talk...UGH! See, she lives in WI which is 2 hours ahead of WA. After speaking with her for a while, I decided I was just up for the day. So, my turkey coma was also induced by a early morning phone call.

After dropping David off to his dad on Friday morning, I decided to head to Fred Meyers for some socks. Our local all-in-one retail store, has a 1/2 price sock sale on BF. I was always working or shopping at other stores during the sale, so I decided to check it out. Many socks later...I was out of the store by 11am and I went home for the day.

Last night, Trina (wingwoman extraordinaire and dd) and I went out to a Hot Flash stoplight party - when you got into the club you choose a glow stick color, Green - single, Yellow - maybe, Red - taken. Dancing, cruising and fun was had! Today was spent recovering. Tomorrow, I must head back to the "real world".
It's small, but they had a lot to do. We spent 2.5 hrs there just playing games, feeding the animals, and searching for the best pumpkins.
Ok, my blog is caught up. I'm still Diet Coke free and rarely drink any type of pop at all, so I see that as a WIN in my book. For the most part my life is pretty darn great. I love seeing my son growing up, I have many friends and well, I'd like to say a job that I love, but at this time....I'll keep mum. I have reconnected with old friends through Facebook and have been lucky enough to have one come to visit. Paula and I knew each other as kids, but never really hung out much. However, our sisters have been friends since the 6th grade. Who knew we'd laugh so much, drink so much and have so much fun together! I love showing off Portland and the area, it never gets old. She even taught me to like the brewery beers that are offered all over this area! WHO KNEW they'd be so good!!
A few weeks before the end of school, I just happened to be home from work early and had David take the bus home - a treat for him. He bounded off the bus and as we were walking home, I noticed that he was favoring his right hand. I stopped and had him show me his hand. OMG!! His pinky was swollen and purple!!

After texting Matt a picture and asking David more questions about it, we were off to Urgent Care to see if was broken. Apparently it was a traumatic slide injury that happened at 2nd recess. David was at the bottom of the slide and another kid came down before David was clear. WHAM-O the pinky got it. I was a bit upset that the school didn't call, but whatever.
The good news is that nothing was broken. Ice, elevation, ibuprofen, and rest was on order for the remainder of the weekend. Here it goes:

It's great living in the modern age of Facebook and texting. The day before Mother's Day I posted on FB that I was planning on taking David to the beach. It just so happened that another friend of mine, Misty, had the same idea with her 2 kids (her husband had to work), so we made plans to head out. Her In-Laws have a house in Cannon Beach just 2 blocks from the beach, and we could park there and walk. EXCELLENT!! SURPRISE SURPRISE, the weather at the beach that day was in the 80's, and for anyone who lives in the PNW, the 80's at the beach is a rare treat.
We started at Seaside for lunch and fun. Then headed down to Cannon Beach for sandy beach fun!

That was me. Completely addicted to Diet Coke - NOT Diet Pepsi - DIET COKE. I don't like coffee, so I drank 2 cans of Diet Coke to perk me up during the day, some days it was more, but I at least had 2 cans per day. A coworker stopped drinking pop completely a few weeks ago, and she was a complete addict (4-6 Dr. Pepper's/day - not diet), so I was inspired to end my habit. I put it in my head that when my case that I had at home was finished, I would not buy more. Saturday I had my last 2 Diet Cokes. I savored them.

I didn't grow up in a house that had pop readily available. It was only purchased for special occasions and then it was bought in 2 Liter bottles. I don't want David to grow up in a house where pop is available either, so that was a motivating factor.

I'm on day 3 and doing OK. Yesterday I woke to feeling as if my legs were 100lbs each and my knees hurt...BAD. Someone texted me and said that Aspartame withdraw symptoms can include everything I was feeling - joint aches, limbs feeling heavy, mind fuzzy. These symptoms can last up to a month!!! I'm experiencing Aspartame detox - WHO KNEW!!!?? Today isn't so bad (yet), I'm definitely missing the fizzy cold of a Diet Coke, but I'm stronger than my habit. I have found some carbonated beverages that seem to help with that desire.

No, I have not given up caffeine - I'm not crazy!! I found some black tea that has the same amount of caffeine as a can of DC, so my 2 cans have been replaced with 2 cups. It's weird drinking a hot beverage though....not a huge fan, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I'm not giving up DC completely, I only want it to be a treat - a mixer with my rum, a special occasion...etc. I don't think that I'm crabby, but if I am, I'll just blame it on the DC withdraw - even years from now! Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06018855677928916733noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2231289399713159634.post-87822836946443847772012-09-07T08:04:00.001-07:002012-09-07T08:04:13.428-07:00Ghost returned? I don't know if I'm a total believer in ghosts or not, but it's kind of fun to think that MAYBE I have one. A few months ago, I blogged about my ghost and how a touch light would go on by itself. Since warmer weather moved in, I unplugged that device to make room for a fan, so "my ghost" hasn't had the ability to turn on the burner.

Maybe my ghost is amping up on its wanting to be known because I was sitting on the couch (alone - D is at his dad's this week) and my kitchen light turned on. This is a large flourescent light on the ceiling and only 1 switch turns it on an off. When I got up to look at the panel, the light switch was flipped to the ON position. MAYBE the switch was only 1/2 way down and it finally flipped up, but when I recreated it, it was really difficult to get the switch into that position AND when it did and finally *popped* up to ON, it made a very audible CLICK sound. I heard no sound, but I was 10+ feet away with the TV on. None of my lights have ever just turned on before.

Regardless of how it happened, it happened and it gave me goosebumps from head to toe. I don't know what to believe because it's so strange.

It could be:

a ghost

switch left 1/2 way

faulty ground wiring

I guess I don't really care why it's happening. It's kind of cool thinking that I may have a ghost. As long as Casper remains friendly, we can be roommates.

David made a list of kids he wanted to invite, and the invitations were sent. Now, I remembered the 'golden rule' of invitations - about 20% of your invited guests will RSVP no.....unless you're talking about David's birthday party. Only 1 kid didn't RSVP....OMG! When we sat everyone down, there were 12 kids!! Again, I'm unsure how the count got so far off. I thought we invited only 10.

About a week before D's party, we talked about what cake he wanted me to make, Bugs Bunny it is....until I couldn't find a Bugs Bunny pan, so it was changed to Spiderman. I made David's cake, only after a few manic moments that I wouldn't be able to finish it. I was texted off the ledge a few times - thank you!!

This was the first year that I had David's party outside the house. Living in a small apartment and kiddo's getting bigger, it just didn't seem like I'd be able to pull it off comfortably. Let me just say: I LOVED IT!! No set up, no mess, no clean up, no worries!! Plus, it's Chuck E Cheese, each kiddo got tokens and off they went to play!

David got to go into the ticket booth to catch tickets. We had an awesome host because David didn't technically catch the ticket worth 1000, but when the booth was opened, that ticket landed on David's shoe and our host let David have it! He was 1 very excited kiddo! 2.5 hours later and 1300+ tickets to spend, David walked away a very very happy boy!
Today I'm here to discuss why bad things seem to happen in sets of 3. WHY??!!

Here are the 3 things that have happened to me in the last 2 weeks, in order:

1. Amos - I recently noticed how skinny he was. He hasn't ever been a plump kitty, but lately he's boney. EW! I called the vet and had him brought in for a check up. He's down to 8lbs!! From 11!! That's pretty significant. They drew some blood and the results came back unfavorably. Amos has kidney disease or failure (a urinalysis will determine), heart disease and pancreatitis. It's not looking good. I had him in for his urinalysis and was found to have a UTI. A weeks worth of meds and I'll bring him back in later this week for another urinalysis.

Amos is NOT supposed to be this sick! I've had it in my mind that Oreo will go first, then in a few years Amos. UGH!

2. Just before spring break, David had a school recital and it was then I was informed that M was laid off from his job. GREAT!! Luckily he kind of saw it coming, so he had some leads for other jobs and found one fairly quickly. However, it doesn't come without it's problems as well. Without going into great detail, he and I will be discussing finances soon, perhaps through an authority figure.

3. David and I were at a Birthday party on Saturday when my phone rang. It was my sister calling to tell me that Mom had fallen and broken her hip. She was just out of surgery. Ummmm, what? Just out of surgery? Why am I hearing about this "just out of surgery" and not before? I don't think Karen found out until around that time either and, really, I'm out here in WA....not like I can "be there in a minute". Anyways, I didn't get any further details until almost Monday evening when I finally spoke to my mom!!! Sunday she was too drugged up to talk. 2 days after surgery and she's been moved to a rehab facility.

Needless to say, all of that stress finally got to me. I was going batshit crazy in my house, so on Sunday I decided I needed to get out. I didn't have David - and it was his official Birthday, that sucked.... I got my ass into gear and headed off to hike. I decided to conquer Beacon Rock and I did. Made it to the top in about 35 min... 850 vertical feet in 3/4 of a mile. I guess all my working out has really WORKED! I even stopped and admired the view many times. It wasn't crowded at all, and I even got adventurous at the end and went a little ways down the West trail....a harder trail. But I was alone and didn't want to find myself in a situation I couldn't get out of, so I turned back.
I'm so fortunate that mine was recently backed up (Thank you) - yes, the hard drive on my Mac died. Died. No warning. Well, there was a moment of warning - when it locked up, the screen flickered and then it died. So, off to the Mac dr. my computer went, and a day later I have a new hard drive, more memory and faster processing. I found it funny that when I picked up my computer, they gave me my old hard drive (all nicely wrapped and labeled) and as he handed it to me, the guy said "in case you need something off of it".....ummmmm, wha? Isn't that why I got a new hard drive because the old one died. Ok. Whatever. I'm guessing that it has more to do with privacy stuff than recovering stuff off of it.

Back to backing up.... DO IT!! Do it NOW!! As I said, my computer was recently backed up which saved about 95% of everything. Almost all of my pictures were saved. I've lost all of 2011 pictures, but I'm hoping that those will be recovered in another way. I could have lived with losing a few months, but an entire year is pretty terrible. I would've been devastated to lose them all. All my pictures since D has been born were on that computer. OMG! I have a panic attack just thinking about losing those.

If you haven't gotten my mantra for this blog: Back that THING up!!Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06018855677928916733noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2231289399713159634.post-72632048497402518712012-02-25T08:11:00.000-08:002012-02-25T08:11:03.527-08:00My ghostSince I can remember, I have always had a feeling of not being alone. As if someone was watching me, but nothing ever happened, so I've just pushed back those feelings until recently.

At Christmas, I received a Scentsy type burner that turns on by touch. I put it on my dresser in my bedroom where the dog cant get to it, David doesn't care about it and the cat is never up there. Recently, Catrina and I broke up, I've been a mess, and this is when I started noticing the burner would be on when I would walk into my bedroom. For a while I would just assume that it was me turning it on and not remembering, but after it started happening multiple times per night I wondered what was happening. I don't hang out in my bedroom (no tv, fold laundry on the couch...etc), so it was odd that the burner would be on so often.

One particular night, by coincidence, I was having a bad night and I watched Ghost Hunters when I walked into my room and found the burner on again. hmmmmm - I thought I'd just try something. I said out loud: "Thank you for being here with me, but will you please stop turning on my burner. It's a little dangerous especially if I leave the house and I don't know that it's on, so please stop." The burner hasn't turned on since!! I'm not kidding! WHOA!!
I thought I'd try something else last week. I got that "feeling" again, so I said aloud "Hi. Are you here? If so, turn on my burner" Nothing happened. But the next night I went to go to bed and the burner was on. Sometime last week, I got into bed and the burner turned on! Just me in the room....the dog and cat do not sleep in the bedroom. It never before turned on when I was present. Apparently me asking it to turn it on has given it permission to turn it on again when it wants. I have since moved the burner to another outlet to see if it was a fluke with the plug, but it's turned on by itself in that area too. It only turns on when I'm at home - I've never come home from work and it's been on.
Parts of me just can't wrap my head around the supernatural, but most of me can accept it. I have been trying to asses my 6th sense on the nights I find the burner on. Did I get "the feeling"? Can I feel something around now? Do I have the feeling I'm being watched? What did I do tonight that I possibly turned on the burner.... For now, I smile when I find it on and know it wasn't me who did it.Tinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06018855677928916733noreply@blogger.com2
